If you or someone you know is dealing with diabetes, or trying to prevent the onset of diabetes, visit the Center's for Disease Control and Prevention's diabetes Web site for help at www.cdc.gov/diabetes. You can get information about your own personal diabetes risk as well as statistics, research, and educational publications.

American Diabetes Association
Are you at risk for diabetes? Healthy eating and regular exercise can help delay or prevent the onset of diabetes. Take the Diabetes Risk Test and get more great information about diabetes at the American Diabetes Association's Web site at www.diabetes.org

National Diabetes Education Program
Get Fit Tennessee is about taking small steps toward better health every day. We know it's hard to get started, so just start where you are! American Cancer Society's Great American Health Challenge

With the American Cancer Society's Great American Health Challenge Web site, you can receive a personal health plan to help you Get Fit! The health plan focuses on tobacco use, alcohol use, your physical activity, nutrition and health history. After completing a brief survey a detailed, personalized plan for a healthy future is outlined for you to print and carry with you.

Small Steps

Check out this useful Web site designed for adults and teens, with an option to choose a Spanish version, too! They have their own activity tracker, health tip and an interactive portion control section with a tour to help you plan healthy meals and Get Fit!

Check out  www.MyPyramid.gov to help you determine which foods you  need to eat each day, how many servings from each food group, and how many calories you should consume. Learn about all the colorful foods that make up a healthy rainbow of options. The “MyPyramid Plan” will create a personalized nutrition plan just for you, based on your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level.

Are you ready to eat a rainbow of colorful foods? Check out the national Fruits & Veggies—More Matters™ Program Web site at http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org. American Dietetic Association
Eating right can help you live a healthier life and Get Fit! The American Dietetic Association's Web site www.eatright.org has some great tips to help you make healthy meal choices and learn more about nutrition for yourself or the whole family. You can even use the site to locate a Registered Dietitian in your area. Heart Health/Stroke Prevention

American Heart Association
Healthy eating and regular physical activity can help you keep your heart strong for life. Find out how to lower your cholesterol and triglycerides, which both contribute heart problems, with help from the American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org. You’ll find information about a variety of heart-healthy topics, as well as information for parents and children, and a link to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association. You can even build a personalized grocery list with certified heart-healthy foods that you can print and take with you to the grocery store.

The Center's for Disease Control and Prevention wants to keep you and your heart healthy, too. Visit the Center's for Disease Control and Prevention's Body and Mind Web site at www.bam.gov. This kid-friendly site includes information, games, and activities on many health topics including nutrition, physical activity, and disease prevention.

Tennessee Coordinated School Health

The Office of Coordinated School Health (OCSH) was established by the Tennessee Department of Education in February, 2001. The primary mission of the office is to improve student health outcomes as well as support the connection between good health practices, academic achievement, and lifetime wellness. 

OCSH partners with the Tennessee Department of Health - Office of School Health. With the passage of TCA 49-1-1002 in 2000, authorization and funding for CSH was established. Additional funding has been provided by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Get Fit Tennessee partners with Coordinated School Health leaders in schools across the state, as part of our awareness tour.
