Eddie George, GetFitTN Spokesperson

TeamTN::Eddie George

Eddie GeorgeFormer Tennessee Titan and Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George has been drafted by Governor Phil Bredesen as the top draft pick of TeamTN and will serve as the official spokesperson for GetFitTN. In this role, George will help lead a statewide campaign to bring awareness to fun, active choices that will lead to better health and a better quality of life for Tennesseans.

“As a father and an athlete, proper nutrition, exercise and overall health awareness is very important to me. In fact, it’s something I live everyday,” shared George. “I was asked by Governor Bredesen to lend my voice to GetFitTN and I consider it my honor to do so. I want to inspire others to take their health seriously and, in turn, live longer, healthier lives.”

With his passionate and competitive spirit, George has carved a special niche for himself in the professional sports arena, particularly the NFL where he is only the second NFL running back to rush for 10,000 yards while never missing a start, joining NFL Hall of Fame member Jim Brown. Only Walter Payton (170) has started more consecutive regular-season games as a running back than George’s 128. In addition to winning the Heisman Trophy at Ohio State in 1995, George won several NFL Rookie of the Year awards in 1996, and was the Tennessee Titans’ starting tailback until 2003. Throughout his tenure as one of the NFL’s premier running backs, George not only possessed an explosive combination of speed, power and toughness, but was the epitome of durability. George’s punishing north-and-south running style won him the 1997 AP’s “Offensive Rookie of the Year” honors as well as four consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl from 1998-2001. Drafted in the first round by the Houston Oilers (later Tennessee Titans), George owns virtually every franchise rushing record. He led the AFC Champion Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. George played for the Titans from 1996-2003 and spent one year with the Dallas Cowboys.

After donning the NFL shield as an all-pro running back for 10 years, George has evolved into a modern day Renaissance Man. He recently joined FOX Sports Network as host of a weekly pro football talk show premiering this fall. He has also broadened his work as a philanthropist by donating his time and money to various charities, including his own non-profit organization, Visions with Infinite Possibilities (VIP). He is also founder and part owner of The EDGE GROUP, a landscape architecture company, and “Eddie George’s Grille 27” in Columbus, Ohio. His contributions can be felt beyond the world of sports and into areas such as music, film and television, education, and social awareness. Eddie latest endeavor takes him further into health and fitness through his company, EGX Lifestyle. EGX Lifestyle consists of physical fitness products created by Eddie and his team of professionals dedicated to helping others achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Eddie currently has homes in both Tennessee and Ohio. He is married to Tamara Johnson and they have a son, Eriq, and he also has a nine-year old son, Jaire.
