Governor Bredesen developed GetFitTN as a statewide awareness program to encourage Tennesseans to learn about healthy eating and improve their diet, and make fun fitness activities a part of their daily lifestyle. When the GetFitTN program began in 2006, Tennessee ranked 48th in the nation for health status. Since then, we’ve improved to 46th, and with your help, Tennessee can become one of the top ten healthiest places to call home.

Susan R. Cooper, M.S.N., R.N., is the first nurse to serve as Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health. Governor Bredesen has charged Commissioner Cooper with leading the GetFitTN program and improving the health of Tennesseans. GetFitTN has taken Commissioner Cooper on the road to both rural towns and large cities across Tennessee in an effort to encourage citizens to take small, simple steps toward healthier living.
